Quick Tips for Market Testing

October 5, 2012|By David Lester

Happy Friday!

Today I’m coming at you from outside a shopping mall with my top 5 tips for how you can conduct free market testing! Let’s jump right into it:

  1. Figure out what the problem is that you need to solve.
    – look for something you can remedy/fix altogether
    – find out what people are willing to pay for that kind of product or service
  2. Use Google as if you were a customer looking for your product or service
    – Do a lot of keywords come up in your search or similar products/services?
    – Are there a large number of people looking for what you want to offer?
  3. Make sure your solution is obviously different from or better than what your search results turn up
    – How different is your product? How can you make it different but still appealing?
    – What can you change about it or add to it to gain a competitive advantage?
  4. Ask questions of your potential buyers/clients to gauge interest
  5. Use a forum to test your idea for free
    – open a blog, a Facebook page, a Twitter account, or do other similar things to communicate with potential buyers/clients and
    test your ideas on them
